AI adoption is forced (ranty/rambly)
i have to use google at work (technically, i could use my dear kagi as well, but i try not to mix up my work accounts with the personal ones) and let me tell you, the search results are awful! you cannot easily get the image source if you are trying to look for a picture, clicking on it will take you to the website that hosts the picture (often a vibecoded one with flashy pictures). if you google anything, the AI answer takes up half the page, and the top results are all from big corporations or slop pages. at this point, the free internet (in the sense that you do not pay for it, not in the freedom sense) has been so shittified that people would rather use AI than search. i am not kidding.
or like, cheap airlines have no customer support - obviously i will use their chat since there is no other way to get any chance of support? like obviously? i have realized when i was searching for whatsapp on my phone that i had evidently installed a monstrosity called "meta ai" on it (i believe that is included in whatsapp) - of course the adoption will go up, since you non-consensually shove it up our throats! and the reason why i sometimes install whatsapp is that some non-technical people can only communicate on there.
god, this whole ai adoption hype is so... unrepresentative of reality.
do people google these days in their private lives? it is so unbelievably painful. i will ask for a kagi licence at work or burn through my search queries (i never use them up anyway). this is beyond me.
i really tried not to swear in this one lol. also it's so incredibly frustrating that youtube insists on translating every video title into the language my laptop is using, as though the notion of someone being able to speak several language is so foreign to them!! dumbasses, i swear, i wish i could turn it off. i got this extension to counteract their insane design.
at this point, i want to pay the creators and use any other website than youtube (which i do). youtube is still the best place to find new creators sadly, and even worse, many of them turn on yt memberships. have your subscriptions on any other platform, i beg of you! isn't patreon still a thing?
